Reasons to Get Dentures with Bison Dentistry

There are many options to replace missing teeth including dentures, partials, and implants. More recently implants have become more popular. However, there are many reasons why implants may not be the best treatment for you including:

  • Denture may be a more affordable option with better insurance coverage. Traditional full dentures and partial dentures are typically more cost-efficient than other alternatives. The typical lifespan of a set of dentures is around 5-10 years.
  • The denture process typically takes less time than an implant procedure.

The Denture Process

At Bison Dentistry, the denture process starts with taking an impression of your mouth and from that a stone model is created. Our team will also go through choosing the shape and size of the tooth along with the color. Then the case is sent over to the local lab.

The dental lab will create a wax version of the denture with the teeth. This allows the patient the opportunity to make any final changes prior to converting the denture into the final form and finishing touches.

Following the approval, the lab will remove the wax and replace it with acrylic. Finally the lab technician will clean up the teeth and polish the appliance. On average the entire process may take 3-5 visits.

Types of Dentures

  • Traditional Full Dentures
    1. These dentures will replace a complete set of teeth. These are placed right on the gums. For patients that will have the remaining teeth removed, these can immediately be placed following removal of those remaining teeth.
  • Partial Dentures
    1. If a patient still has multiple healthy remaining teeth. Then partial dentures from the Bison Dentistry team would be recommended as the best option to replace those teeth that are missing while keeping the teeth healthy.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures
    1. If you’re interested in tooth implant-supported dentures, Bison Dentistry can provide you with a stable and long-lasting solution to missing teeth. This treatment will combine traditional dentures with implants. However, the denture will no longer be able to be removed. Please note that not all patients are good candidates for this treatment.
  • Overdenture or Snap-in-Dentures
    1. Bison Dentistry offers snap-in-dentures as another option for patients who want a more secure and stable fit than traditional dentures. This treatment will combine traditional dentures with implants. This allows that traditional denture to remain more stable, but still allows the patient to remove it at night.

There are many replacement options the patient can choose from. However, depending on the patient’s unique situation and health may dictate which options are better. Our team is available to discuss all the different options. We will help you determine the right one for you.

How to Care for Dentures

Maintaining denture requires additional maintenance outside of the typical oral hygiene routine. Dentures need to be properly cared for to ensure longevity of the appliance.

Patients should soak dentures overnight in the appropriate denture solution. Avoid washing dentures with hot water and never use denture solution in their mouth. Remember to thoroughly rinse dentures prior to placing them back in you vermouth to rinse all of the solution off. Our team can help you determine the best solution to keep your denture clean.

It is very important to remove the denture after eating and rinse them to remove any remaining food particles.

Bison Dentistry recommends that dentures be brushed at least once a day to help extend their life.

Despite not having teeth, patients should continue dental hygiene by brushing their teeth and gums and floss any remaining teeth. We offer a range of comfortable and natural-looking denture options, including full, partial, and snap-in dentures to the Buffalo and Tonawanda area, providing a functional solution for missing teeth. Whether you need dentures, partial dentures, or tooth implant-supported dentures, Bison Dentistry has got you covered. Frequently Asked Questions

When patients lose their teeth, the bone loss may begin to cause the cheek to look hollow and sunken. Dentures can help to fill out space and retain the face’s original shape. Having a full set of teeth that look beautiful and healthy also improves a person’s appearance and overall confidence.

Eating with dentures may feel uncomfortable for a few weeks, just as when people get braces for the first time. However, over time, it becomes easier. In the beginning, try to stay away from foods that meet any of the following criteria:

  • Sharp-edged
  • Tough
  • Sticky
  • Hot

A 2015 study published by the National Institute of Health found that seniors who wore dentures while they slept long-term faced a higher risk of developing pneumonia. The CDC also believes dentures may negatively affect nutrition. They attribute this to denture wearers avoiding fruits and vegetables because they are more difficult to chew.

Patients who have lost all their natural teeth may require adhesives, while others may not. Even so, patients with only partial tooth loss may choose to use adhesives for additional support. It may also assist people suffering from neurological disabilities, dry mouth, or who take certain medications.

Dentures tend to be more affordable than other tooth replacement options. Each case is different, and the individual selections a patient makes can affect the cost. Generally speaking, dentures offer the most cost-effective full tooth replacement. When patients choose hybrid options that involve implants, the price may increase for each implant added.

Dental insurance may cover the cost of dentures. However, there may be a waiting period due to a pre-existing condition. Some patients rely on dental savings plans. Your insurance provider can discuss with you the details.
